Question:
Why do my legs itch so bad at night?
2010-10-06 21:45:53 UTC
I go all day and my legs are not itchy at all, but it seems like once I start to sit down and relax once I'm "done" for the day they start to itch so damn bad it drives me nuts! Can anyone tell me what the cause of this might be?

Sounds like Restless Legs Syndrome.

Allergic reactions will not cause itching symmetrically on both legs. Likewise, there are no skin ir internal diseases of which I am aware which cause symptoms of the type you describe.

When people itch without a rash, stress is often a factor. At times it's the itch itself which induces the stress--in other words, the more you itch, the more you scratch, and so on. And the more you worry about whether you're going to itch, the more you will.

You can use a topical anesthetic, as often as needed (even every few minutes.) This can help break the itch-scratch cycle.

Over-the-counter anesthetics include: Benadryl, Lanacane, Sarna, and pramoxine.

Use one or more of these and use them regularly, until you stop itching.

It might be your shaving cream. I usually use Barbasol brand shaving creams (SUPER CHEAP!) and have recently switched to a different "type" of Barbasol cream. (I think I used the "Skin Conditioner" kind and switched over to "With Aloe Vera" - you wouldn't think there's much of a difference, right?) I always had a super smooth shave when using my original type but have had really dry, itchy, prickly legs since switching to the Aloe Vera cream. I would really suggest looking into Barbasol shaving creams. They're like $1 each so you can experiment! Keep up the switching of razors and applying a good lotion and you should be good to go! Take care.
