Acne is a skin blemish that afflicts both boys and girls whether young or old. Surfacing during puberty and continuing well into adulthood, acne can balloon anywhere on your body but is most irritating when it appears on the facial region. One of the most damning things about acne is the scar it can leave behind and when the scar is on your face, that scar can run deeper than the skin.

There is no definite answer as to how acne forms into the different types; however, science tells us that the oily secretion called sebum, when trapped with dead cells and hair under the skin, becomes an environment where bacteria grow. This will then manifest in a reddish blemish on the surface of the skin, which we call acne. Some of these can be close to the surface of the skin and we see it as a whitehead or blackhead. These are the non-inflammatory type of acne.

There is also the inflammatory type of acne. These are those that swell and are painful to the touch and sometimes feel hot. These are what we refer to as pimples or zits and these are the type of acne that can cause scarring because it extends deep into the skin layers.

Different people experience different types of scarring because each person has a different facial topology. The following are the possible types of scarring:

. Shallow imperfections

. "Ice pick" scars (similar to chickenpox scars)

. Deep scars

Research into acne scars and how they are formed is very limited and treatments are therefore very limited as well. Treatment of acne scar must be addressed on a case-by-case basis and no single treatment is applicable to everyone. You have to consult your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon as to the best procedure to follow.

There are several treatments available for removal of acne scars and the type of treatment depends on the type of scarring. Again, ask your doctor on which treatment or combination of treatments is right for you.

. Dermabrasion. The skin is either frozen or numbed and a machine is used to remove damaged skin, allowing new skin to grow. This is not to be confused with microdermabrasion, which will not help remove acne scarring.

. Laser Resurfacing. As the name implies, this involves the use of laser to remove the old damaged skin so a new skin can grow in its place. Laser Resurfacing is challenging the dominance of dermabrasion in the field of skin resurfacing.

. Chemical Peels. This procedure uses acid which is applied to the skin to remove the top layer in order for a new smoother layer to grow.

. Punch Technique. This procedure removes the pitted scar and the wound is closed and allowed to heal. Three techniques are available: Punch replacement, Punch excision and Punch elevation.

. Subcision. This procedure detaches the scar from deeper tissues, which allows a pool of blood to form under the scar. This pool of blood then clots and helps form connective tissues under the scar, helping it level off with the surface.

. Augmentation. A material is injected under the scar to bring it level to the surface. Collagen or one's own fat is most often used in this procedure.

Prevention is still the best policy. Consult your doctor for the best preventive care for your skin and, if you have acne already, for the best treatment to prevent scarring.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.
